Thread Starter | mic pre question
Im very interested in getting the rosetta 200, it has 2 channel AD/DA's which is all I need. I heard they have better A/D conversion than digi's 192 i/o, the only thing is I dont know which 2 channel mic pre to get with it. I can only afford 500-800 on a 2 channel mic pre. oh and by the way I got a rode NT1 just incase you wanted to know. thanx

What type of music are you planning to record? What instruments will you be recording with it? What is your budget for a 2 channel mic preamp? These are questions that are important when choosing a mic pre.

The Avalon M5 is a great choice. I see them used between $800-1000. (May be worth saving the couple extra hundred bucks.) I'm having a hard time thinking of some others in that price range because I learned along time ago that it is worth saving the money to step up to the professional realm of mic pres like the M5, 737, Producer Pack, Voxbox, liquid channel, etc. But then you'll want a new mic and then this and that......Ohhhh, it never ends. ![]() BTW: I wouldn't say the Apogee is "better" than the 192 just different but still a great value for the money. There are alot of converters available these days but I believe Apogee makes the best product for the money so good choice. |

thanks for the fast reply , well I do alot of acoustic guitar work, vocals and the styles vary from Poprock, hip hop, salsa, and some ballad flava. I guess a good 600 is what I can spend on a 2 channel. I heard ALOT!!about the RNP but just wondering whats the next step from the rnp.

| www.safesoundaudio.com Check out the P1. It's awesome and in your price range. More than a pre though, it's an everything box designed by a former Neve designer. War |

Dude, Huge mistake. You have a Digi 192 I/O and are gonna buy a Apogee Rosetta 200 and a $300 per channel mic pre. It makes no sense. Keep the Digi convertor and get a great mic pre. $1,000 per channel and anything that Mercenary Audio has or the Brent Averill. Apogee is an improvement only if your signal is worthy. Your's will not be at $300 per channel. Peace |
