Get everything you possibly can.
Start with overdrives... then fuzz... then everything else.
Ohhh, and get a KILLER SOUNDING WHA!!!

I don't know how many guitar players nowadays come in with shitty sounding, tone robbing toys.

This of course is after you have purchased a stable of great sounding amps and a couple of nice guitars for them to play.... actually, keep a good guitar player on speed dial to actually PLAY the parts.

I forgot to mention a volume pedal.

I have a couple of Ernie Ball Volume Pedals and a Morley Little Alligator. They all work well to help get a clean sound.

Rather than turning down the volume knob on the guitar, I get a much better tone when backing the volume pedal down a bit.

Strobostomp Tuner
Carl Martin Compressor
Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Fulltone Supatrem
MXR Bichorus
EH Memory Man Deluxe
Diamond Fireburst

These are my favorites and essential to my chain. I've tried a lot of pedals.

No musts for me, and I don't have too many to choose from, but I'd really miss my Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive if it was all a dream, and I am having a diffcult time turning off my Fulltone Supa Trem

There's a whole forum dedicated to this question and it gets up to 50 posts per hour (which is more than the So Much Gear forum).
