2 Subwoofers to choose, wich one?

HI, friends.

I have experimented bass problems recently in my mixes. I see that my mixes are suffering from heavy bass. So I used a sub in the studio and voala, the problem was solved. Yes I have acoustic treatment in my studio.

So due to a tight budget I am considering the KRK RP10S Active subwoofer or the TAPCO SW10 active subwoofer.

If someone has an opinion on these would be great!

i prefer the sw10 because it does not have a ported design. in fact, it's the only sub i know of in that price range without a port. that's why i bought it, and i'm very happy.

Do you know about the tannoy TS8 subwoofer?

Someone told me that is very nice. However I do not know if it would be better to have a 10 or 8 inches one.

Do you people think getting one of these budget subs would be ok, or would be definitely better to hold on till I can get something better as the tannoy TS8 or the adam sub8? Is the tapco sub far from the tannoy?

naaa..

get it, you can always return it.

did you try a sub in your studio or another studio?

if it was yours, which one was it.

what speakers do you have?

a sub will help if you have 6inch woofer speakers.

its always best to learn to mix on your spekers by comparing pro mixes.

i learned on mine by having my mixes checked in my car, at other studios etc.

you get a feel for your speakers and learn when there is too much or not too much bass.

besides that, mixing and listening with a sub is way more fun also.

Well there is a BIG problem. That is, I do not love in US, so I can not check them before buying them. Here nobody carries this kind of subs.
I tried the sub in my studio. I used a borrowed one, and I noticed I was adding too much bass. The real deal here is that I make bass-heavy music and that makes hearing the low notes a must. When I tried my mixes in PA, cars or home theathers, the mids and highs seemed to be ok, but the sub lows were totally LOUD!
I have the KRK rokit 8 monitors, but I may go for the adams a7 soon. However, I have noticed I am really happy with the KRKs, in mids and highs. I am just missing the subs.

I had the RP8's and made the switch to the A7's. I'm very happy with them, however I have trouble hearing accurately below 100hz or so. I have my room treated (8 GIK traps) so I think you're still going to need a sub to hear accurately down low with the A7's. I'm in the market for a budget sub myself so I don't have any suggestions but I'm following this thread as well.

Great!

How do you find the RP8s stand against the A7s?

I found the RP8's to be scooped sounding compared to the A7's. Much better mid/high detail and transients with the A7's. The ART tweeter was a little bright for my room, my mixes were dull until I turned it down a DB. Overall the A7's are a much better monitor IMO, however both are lacking in low end (sub 100hz) hence my search for a sub as well.

Old thread, same answer here -- for budget cost yet high performance real subs look to: Hsu STF-1 $299.

True subwoofers, response measured flat to 28 Hz in my room. Will play loud and musical. 30 day money back evaluation.
