Tube mic for soulful male voice

I am looking for a good tube mic for a soulful male vocalist. I was looking into the Groove Tubes GT60, Rode K2 , M-audio Sputnik. Which would be a better mic.

Need help guys.

Out of that list I'm think Groove Tubes only because it's easier to modify.

A 'soulful male vocalist' is a pretty broad category. One soulful male vocalist might sound great on the Sputnik and suck on the K2 or T3 or whatever. Another one might suck on the sputnik... you get the idea, right? If the mic is for one particular singer, you'll probably need to try them all, and send back the ones you don't like. Front End Audio will let you do that, if GC won't.

Another option - record the vocalist on a standard mic (sm57?) and post a clip, so that all the mic gurus around here can give you suggestions specific to your singer.

Speaking generally, a singer with a scooped voice, (all air and no beef) ala John Mayer, or Rod Stewart, is going to sound better on a midrangey mic, like the Sputnik. A singer with a mellow, smooth voice is going to sound better on a bright mic.

Look into the Avant CV 12 if it has to be a tube mic. I'm going to look at and hopefully listen to one today. Getting rave reviews, comes with 3 tubes and affordable.

I'd go for the Groove Tube, but check out the AT4060, too.
