Good!

They have a favorable ribbon style like 'anti hihat' hisssssss action

Not picking up too much room - directional capabilities seem to function well.

"meaty' believable hits instead of washy vague HF sheen...

Someone was suggesting the use of 3... I can imagine that actually.... but will stick with 2 for now.

My quest for the ultimate overhead sound continues of course, but my budget is 'halted'. I am for the time being - content.

I am facing my Neumann M149's (cardiod pattern) away from the kit towards brick walls & compressing them with either a pair of Distressors or a Cranesong STC-8 - this contributes a great deal to the OH sound.

I have no net accesss at home (laptop in for repair) and am going through a v busy phase at the studio... I would love to post up sound snippets.. but cant spare the time. Sorry.

Good news indeed.

Agreed on all points.
I've found the hypercardioid nature of the M260 keeps the picture tight as well. Not to mention the slight proximity going on which IMO gives some of the "meaty" gains you mentioned. A good thing. Cymbals, including the hat, never seem to give much of a problem. As a matter of fact a spot mic on the hat was requested not to long ago.

I've wanted to give this a try pointing the mic's to the corners of the room to darken things up a bit. Especially when the cymbal happy player takes the throne. Currently it's (2)NTK's, (please no comments they are great room mics trust me and I have plenty others to use. And do. Mostly ribbons.) through an MDP-1a and a pair of distressors.

Thanks Dan..

Re my room mic setup -

To clarify, there is nothing 'dark' at all about this signal... In fact the mic's used in this application deliver FAR more HF 'zing' than the M160 overheads and the QUALITY of this 'boundary effect' HF is very pleasent to my ear.

I am using filters to reduce the low frequencies on playback as they tend to muddy the kick sound...

Thanks for clarifying.

How far are you placing the mics off the wall? I'm thinking for a "boundary effect" they would have to be pretty close.
