What UAD plugins to get

Hi guys.

I just got the UAD-1 Project PAK dirt cheap.
So now I used the voucher to get the LA-2A and I also
shelled out for the Plate 140.

I have to save up some money for more plugins but Im wondering
which ones I should be saving up for.

I mainly record classical guitar, vocals and the odd guitar amp + bass guitar through DI.

Based on this, what plugins would you guys recommend?
The Neve 88RS shure looks tasty

I know, I can demo for 14 days before purchase but some 2nd opinions couldnt hurt.

Thanks for you time

You got the LA2A and the Plate140, get the 88RS for sure and think long and hard about the Pultec Pro (its fairly cheap too!)

my preferences, in order:

1) 1176
2) plate 140
3) neve 1073
4) la2a
5) dimension

the neve eqs are really quite nice. especially since with other eq's i'm usually taking things out. with the neve's you can add just the right amount of high or mid without the usual eq "wankiness" (TM)

then again, the roland dimension is a sort of sleeper plug-in. i don't regret that one at all!

The Neve EQs are pretty convincing. If you record bass DI the Neve 1073 will make those tracks sound a lot better. But the LA2A and Plate 140 are the cream of the crop. I really like the Precision Limiter is killer for bringing up the volume of your track without coloring the sound. The SPL Transient Designer is new, but might be worth checking out as well.

Pultec Pro is a nobrainer, especially for vocals. Then I'd demo these first to see if you like they way they sound:

Fairchild (different flavor of compression)
Dimension D (great if used subtly)
All the Neve stuff (don't own any yet, but EQs and comps are great for vox)

Pultec is most definitely a no brainer BUT...

The 88RS is great and will serve you well with what you are doing. Considering the small amount of UAD plugs you have at the moment, I think you'd end up using the 88RS the most. It's a great channel strip that is processor friendly.

Alright!

Thanks for all the informative replies

I think Im gonna get the Pultec Pro and the Neve 88RS.

Btw, now that I have the LA-2A, is there any reason for me to get the LA-3A?

My 14 day demo of the Precision Limited was very impressive--exactly the kind of subtle "louderizer" I'd been looking for as an alternative to the L1, T-Racks, Wave Hammer, etc., crowd. I love the Pultec Pro. Next for me is the Precision Limiter and either the Precision EQ or the Neve channel strip

The LA3A is great for bass guitar.

But I would get the 1073 first, great eq, sound right on mainly everything.the SE version is much more efficient dsp wise, and hard to distinguish from the full fat version.

I love the 33609 compressor , using it in SE mode sounds fine too. Definately a recognizable sound.

The Precision limiter is great , it keeps the punch and doesn`t soften the transients.

The Cambridge Eq amazing , not for color but toneshaping .

The Transient Designer is new and doesn`t get much praise yet , but I blows me away. Adding punch to drums , but also has other uses.

The Precision De-Esser is wonderful , the best software deesser I know of.

These would be my starters , next on my list are one of the Neve Eq`s , wich sound great .

Yes the Helios is great, the Hi Pass is particulary well suited for removing mud on bass tracks.

ok then what about the Roland collection?

The RE-201 is unbelievable, the CE-1 and the Dimension D are undistinguishable from the real thing...

I used my voucher for the 1073. I then bought the Transient Designer cause I record a lot of rock and metal and I loved the demo.

Is there an audible difference b/w the 1176SE and LN? I know I know... try the demo.

The plate 140 and 1176 is great.

I've mixed with them at project studios, but I'm a Pro Tools guy at work, so I haven't used them much. When I have heard them, they are fantastic.

I can't remember it's name, but there is a great multi-band compressor they make. It sounds great, and I found it to be the easiest to use control wise. It's laid out very nicely.
