Should I upgrade my sound card, even if I plan to bypass it's converters?

I'm looking into getting an RME sound card. My question is will upgrading my card from my old one, (EMU) to RME do anything at all as I'm using an Apogee Mini Me via spdif into the EMU anyway. Will that be just wasting my money as I plan to use the Mini Me converters even with the RME?

I've been using RME cards for a long time, and find their drivers to be very reliable. Not sure why you're considering changing cards, but I can say that my results with RME have been problem free.

FWIW,

Ok, if I understand correctly, the Mini-Me is a great pre-amp and a great AD-converter. What's lacking in your setup is a good DA-converter, I guess that's the only purpose of the EMU. I would suggest to spend your money on a good DA converter such as Apogee Mini-DAC or Benchmark. Come to think about it, in fact the new Apogee Duet is as cheap as the DAC, and it includes pre-amps, AD & DA conversion (only slightly inferior to the DAC) , so maybe I would go with that. Unless you need the extra in/outs there is no need for you to get the RME box.
