| One of my all time favourite albums is Matthew Sweet's 100% Fun. The killer production just adds to the already killer songs. O'Brien's production certainly doesn't get dated fast. It's not intrusive production either.

| If that's the case, he's right across the street from me. I think they are currently recording at the Warehouse in Vancouver.

| Although Sunshine Rain kinda has that "old Ty" tonality going on, with all the layers (he did use the Lab on some spots... maybe this tune?)

| +1 "eh" - gave it a good listen, but they ain't my cuppa tea. You can still hear thhe BOB snar drum treatment though.... Its very distinctive crisp "mic'd shell" type of sound

| Gear Head | I was thinking of posting a thread about Springsteens latest albums, and stumbled upon this thread. What I'm thinking about is how surprised I was to find that mr O'Brien did both "Devils and Dust" and "Magic". I mean, "Magic" sounds very good, albeit a bit bright and squashed, but that's probably mostly mastering... But "Devils..." doesn't whenever there is drums on the track in my opinion. The drums sounds on that one is muddy, clonky and just not fitting imo. Is this just because it's a different player and everything that would entail or...? Your thoughts?

| I did preproduction on Brendan's very first independent production (Johnny Law) after he'd engineered the Black Crowes. He was a really supportive, easy-going guy, great ears. I've been a long-time fan (the latest Springsteen record notwithstanding). Another vote for Dogman. That was the very first King's X record that had a huge, tight bottom end. The dynamic range on that record is tremendous and it really kicks.

yeah the clarity and separation on that recording is superb. Overheads barely compressed. not much room sound considering his "normal" approach
