Quick Question...Monitors

So I've been recording for about 5 years now, a few of them on a professional level, paying all my bills and whatnot. And recently I was recording a hip-hop track that needed to be custom produced, so I pulled some great great timpani and 808 samples out of my bag of tricks for a "kick" drum because thats the exact sound the client was looking for. While in the studio, car, stereo, etc the drums sounded exactly to taste, fit the overall character of the song, sounded great.

The song gets to the club (with decent live speakers, subs, etc) and just becomes lackluster. Couldn't get it to hit me in the chest for the life of me. During the mixing of this particular record (which I became personally invested in, not just a 'for hire' project) I listened to a lot of reference mixes in my car and realized my mixes weren't translating as well as I'd like (my car speakers are absolutely terrible though...) So as any good real engineer would, I start questioning the integrity of my room and my speakers. I've got Blue Sky system one (w/ 12'' sub) and genelec 8030's that I reference through with an occasional listen in some sony and akg heaphones. Im clocking using an apogee big ben and using a mini dac for conversion.

Problems with nodes in my room set aside (which will also be tweaked out...again...) Do you think I would benefit from getting some cheap club speakers as mains for my studio?? Like some yamaha BR12s or comparable??

any advice would help.

Alot of club systems run their systems in mono and sometimes only one side. Check your mixes in mono and see if they fall apart. If your mixes don't translate I would look at your room first, as you thought , before I tried mixing thru club speakers.
