what's an easy way to check phase?

I just recently picked up a Phoenix DRS-2 and I was using it on guitar and noticed that everything seemed to be out of phase with my other pres. I tried it on snare with a chandler on the bottom and phoenix on the top and it sounded the most full with the phase flipped on both (I guess I could've just not flipped the phase on both).

Both channels on the phoenix seem to be out of phase with the rest. I've checked all the cables and no difference. Shaun says some units were mistakingly wired pin 3 hot, but I'm not sure if this is one of them. Is there a foolproof way to test the phase between two pres. Could I use one source direct and compare the two?

Thanks,
Brandon

I think I answered my own question. It never dawns on me until right after I hit submit on the thread. I used a DI and put one into the chandler and the other into the phoenix and played some guitar. Without the phase button engaged on one of them, the sound almost cancelled, so I guess that answers that question. It's wired pin 3 hot. weird...

I talked with Shaun from Phoenix and he led me through the changed I needed to make to get everything wired back in phase. The modification turned out great and everything sounds good. Thumbs up to a great company that quickly responds to communication.

When used alone there should be no audible difference between something that's wired Pin 2 hot vs. Pin 3 hot.
