novice seeks advice on 16-24trk recording advice

Hi, I need some advice. Like the title says, I'm looking for the best multi-track digital recorder. I've been looking at ebay and in ams, but I'm still kind of lost.

The key elements I'm looking for are hi-fi/ no noise quality, an internal cd burner, and built in mastering effects, and that will fit into a $800 budget. I like the boss units that have the built in loop/drum sequences and stuff.

I'm a guitar player looking to do some solo work in the contemporary jazz style. I'm big on acoustics which is why I want no (or as little as possible) noise. I need something that will be as useful in the idea stage as it is in the mastering/final production stage.

What are you guys using? Whats easy to use, affordable and will produce a studio quality recording?

Thanks for your advice.

You might want to check out the Yamaha Aw2816. They can be bought on Ebay for around 800-900 bucks. It might actually be more than what your looking for, now that I think about it. I remember the learning curve was kind of steep also.

I recorded a demo cd w/ it a couple years ago, and it actually sounded good. I had the Waves Y56K expansion card in it, which gave me some cool plug-ins, for mixdown and mastering.

Check around the internet, for reviews of units, and go from there. Good luck!!

Sorry if I sound like an ass, but renting studio time will be most profitable is my guess.. You will NOT find a magic all-in-one box that has great preamps, a nice summing buss, good FX, can master stuff, does 16-24 tracks and sounds good ('pro').. for under a grand...

Best guess would be computer, multi-I/O sound card and cheap software, free plugins and the like...
