| Gear interested | genelec, dynaudio, adam or yamaha ???
monitors are next on my upgrade list. im using the fostex pm05 and tannoy active reveal passive at the moment, but im not satisfied with my mixes, which dont translate as well as i wish they would. its like on my monitors im the KING, but as soon as i hear the cd in my car or at my friends house there are so many things that just kill me for your info: im into oriental pop/rock/dance/acoustic music, with a lot of bass, percussion, acoustic guitar and stuff like this. it seems to me, the point where i suck the most is in mixing the bass with my current system, i somehow cant manage to mix the bass with the fostex pm05 like a pro mix. right now, i have 4 (yes four) really good deals on some monitors. dynaudio bm6 passives + alesis ra500 adam p11 genelec 1031 yamaha msp10 i can get one of these used for almost the same price. good thing abt genelec and yamaha is that i most probably wouldnt need a subwoofer, but ive heard so many good things abt the adams and dynaudios. i can only get the dynaudios with ales ra500, thats the deal, i dont know if that is a good combo or not, but i have to pick one of those four for my future monitoring system in combination with the ns10´s of a good friend, which i can use whenever i want. plz recommend me one of those four, there might be other great monitors, but i have to decide for one of those four in a few days. thanxs in advance ! |

it's strictly my opinion, but i'd go with the dynaudio's from that list. i like them a little better than the genelec, and i think you'd need the larger adam monitor to really end up with a better monitor, not the adam you mentioned. i have ns10's as seconds but haven't used the particular yamaha you mentioned. if you do get the dynaudio's, i'd consider selling the alesis amp and getting something decent. i use a hafler and am very happy with that combo. hope that helps.

dynaudio's....save up the rest you would've spent on the adams and get a better amp. Brandon

ADAM P-22A's!!! They rock and are loud enough to track with and give the client a woody. IMO the Dynaudio's sounded too hifi. We just mixed a CD this week and it went to be mastered at Marcussen in Hollywood and Louie said the mix was well balanced and translated perfectly. He also said he did a session the other day with some tracks mixed on ADAM's and said they translated really well too.

while i too mentioned the other adams, i suspect the price difference between the choices he listed and the 22's just mentioned is a dealbreaker. given that, i still vote for the dynaudio's. my mixes translate real well. room treatment will matter more than the differences between these speakers. if i were looking again today, the dynaudio's and adams would be two of the main things i looked at. being able to afford the adams i like the most would be the trick.

I love my Dynaudio BM6A's... but the low low end is just not there. Physically. If feeling the low bass (below 60 hz) is important, and I think for most modern productions it is, you will need to add a sub or two. Your system will be full range, with great clarity in the mids, if not particularly huge sounding. In a smaller room this can work very well. |
