| Gear maniac | I came to a conclusion
amp simulators really suck............ I treated my room (not completely finished), optimized my monitoring set up, plugged in the old guitar for the first time since treating the room. Thin, abrasive, with a sound similar to something out of phase....... really shitty. I tweaked and tweaked and got it sounding better, but still horrible and the distorted guitars did not sit well with the drums or bass. Distorted guitars come in on the chorus and the bass ducks under. Didn't have time to notch everything out EQ wise, but still could not get them to sit in the mix. I am using Guitar Rig 2 but I see a REAL rig in my near future. Did my ears get better? Or am I now actually hearing what the program really sounds like? |

I don't doubt at all that it sounds like ass I'm usually a pretty strong defender of the pod and I think that L6 actually makes good softwawre (I really like GearBox on some things) but the Pod sounds like crap compared to a good amp + mic in my room but it has its uses, times, and places |

That DI stuff seems to sound cool on its own, but putting it into a mix really exposes it as inferior. I'd say even a lame amp that pushes air into a meager 57 will give better quality

Try a tube amp with a ribbon. ![]() A Vox AC15H1TV for instance with a t.bone ribbon mic and a sm67 can make your day. Reallllly sweeet sound... m. |
