Try the Wavearts Panorama. Probably not as good as Qsound, judging by what I've heard on Sting's Soul Cage and a Roger Waters album.
I have a roland sde-330 (3d delay), and combined with the panorama, it can really get all over the place, although I haven't been convinced by vertical placement...
Another trick I found, but don't quote me on that as I should try it again, is this one : take a mono track you want to place outside the stereo field, double it and flip the phase 180°. Now you don't hear anything, quite normal. Put the same eq (waves sl channel in my case), and redial different settings in each track to find the sound again. Now send the two tracks to a bus with the waves S1 as an insert, and a phase analyser on your master fader. Mess with the S1 settings until you see the signal completely out of phase on the right or on the left. You should now hear the signal pretty far left or right in the stereo field.
As I said, don't quote me on this, it's been a while and I don't remember the exact settings I used on the S1. But I still remember the results, pretty impressive, although as you might guess the "recomposed" signal gets damaged in the process. Can be interesting or not depending on the situation.
Hope this helps. (been reading the forum for a while, now going back to my lurking cage)
