The Cardigans' recording drum kit

I love The Cardigans' records (specially their "Long gone before daylight", sound and productionwise) and was doing a search to see if I could find some info on their recording processes. I found this recording diary:

The Cardigans

The information in the diary is not very revealing from a sound engineering point of view, but there are a couple of interesting pictures. I found the drummer guy used strange kick and floor tom drums...

They seem to me like some kind of custom drums, but I haven't seen anything like that before (the kick's depth is huge!) and I wonder wether they are specially designed for recording purposes.

I see they use 421's both on toms and later on acoustic guitar (a pair of them). Don't know if those were demo trackings, but I wouldn't have said they recorded acoustics with that mic. Nice to see those mics quite far from the toms' heads (love the drum sound on their records), and a living-room set as a tracking room for a platinum album recording...

The producer did the same with Franz Ferdinand with their first lp - taping 2 bass drums together..

Also when you listen to Take me out - it isn't too disimilar to the Cardigans Love Fool in places (the drums, choppy guitars)..

Thanks for the link, it was fun to read. I didn't know that the album had taken so long in the making and that it had taken them to so many countries in the progress. I actually blew the dust of the CD and am listening to it now. A great band record.
It's worth noting that Tore Johansson that later went on to produce Franz Ferdinand wasn't the main producer on this album, they produced it themselves along with Per Sunding.
