Can I use my Yamah PA speakers as reference speakers?

I use my firepod right now through my RP-6s. I was just wondering if I could use my 2 15" yamaha PA speakers to use as a reference speaker. Could I hook them up to my firepod? I normally use my mackie 800 watt powered mixer to power my PA speakers...could I go from my firepod to the mackie maybe to power these speakers and then A/B from my monitors to my PA speakers?

Ya could do this, although I'm not sure it would add much unless these are the only montors you have available. If its all ya got, work with it.

What exact model of Yamaha PA speaker?

The difficult part of using the Yammies as monitors will be learning how what you mix on them will sound on peoples stereos, in their cars,... Most stereos will sound a LOT different than the Yammie PA's so you'll probably have to print many test mixes before you get a decent mix from the Yammies.

I'm not using them as monitors, I'm just using them to see how everything translates to more of a home system and just to listen to the music at loud volumes and see how it sounds. I know it won't be like a car system but I'm going to play a mix i like through the PA speakers and use the 9 band EQ to get it to sound best to my ears then compare it to my mixes...and of course just to hear it at loud volumes... I do all the mixing with my monitors...I'm just curious how I would hook up the PA speakers or powered Mackie mixer to my firepod so I can listen through the PA speakers. They're pretty decent yamaha speakers.

Yep

Take 2 of your analog outputs from your firepod to the powered mixers line inputs (or the stereo channel)

Hard pan and listen up!
