To upgrade, or not to upgrade? (apogee duet content)

Hey, first post here at gearslutz. I was thinking about upgrading my presonus inspire to an apogee duet. I know the quality will be better, but will I notice it? or would I just be smarted to spend that cash on a dedicated pre-amp...

Depends on what Preamp you're thinking about. Also what Primary Mic you use?

I mainly rely on my Rode NT1, and I don't currently own any preamps other then whats in the presonus.

If you only track no more than 2 tracks at a time, I'd say, sell the Presonus (Which I think makes the best 8 channel converters for under a grand). To me, better than anything Motu is making. Buy yourself the Duende.

Next, start saving for a good Mic and a good Mic pre. That combination will take your recordings to a higher level. Budget a grand for a used Mic Pre. Budget 1500.00 for a Mic. You can come in for less than that, but I'd get their money wise and then make a decision. I'm a big fan of the Pearlman TM1, it's around 1500.00. But you can also get a Mojave for a grand.

So do you think the duet is worth it when I already have 2 channels of decent recording? or would I be smarted to save my money (or spend it on plug-ins...haha)
