Breathing Fiberglass Expelled From 703

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to "treat" a DIY bass trap made of OC 703 or 705 so that microscopic particles of fiberglass aren't inhaled?

I did a search and couldn't find any information specifically on this. I've heard to spray a coat of hairspray on the top layer and I thought it was a good idea.

Any other ideas?

Thanks...

I sprayed the back side of my traps with a light coating of 3M Spray Adhesive, which is what I used to bond the fabric to the front side, seems to be working after three years of use.

If you take a bat and whack the panel then yes particles will come out into the air. But if you just hang it on the wall then you are fine. No particles should be spreading out into the room. Honestly I would be more worried about air quality then fiberglass particles harming you.

Thanks Glen!
While I'm at it, would there be any disadvantage in getting all 705 panels, or would it be better to get a combination of 705 & 703?

When IM doing a big install and using/cutting a lot of 703 I have a box fan with 2 filters duct taped to the input side and keeps those from floating in the air...

That's a good one! Thank you...

Any advantages of using ALL 705 or should I get a combination of 705 & 703?

BTW - I've got egg shell foam all over my walls at present.

If you can afford 705 then go for that, but keep in mind that dollar vs. sabins (absorption) 703 wins every time. 6" of 703 will out proform 705 and cost less.
Needless to say either way you go your room will be much better.

One potential source of causing floating glass particles is if you have forced air heat, and there's a floor register in proximity to where you hang a trap. Cheap and fast to spray the uncovered portion of the panel with something, my 2cents!

I think you mean that when you get to six inches thick, the difference between 703 and 705 is less than when they're only three inches thick. Which is true. But even at 6 inches thick 705 is a tiny bit better. At least it was in both of my tests. See the bottom four waterfall plots on this page:

Rigid fiberglass density tests

Whether FRK or plain, 705 makes the peaks just above the 92 Hz marker a little rounder and flatter.

One of these days I hope to test this again using twice as much material to get more definitive data.

To clarify what I said (thanks Ethan)

703 6" will out perform 4" 705 and cost less.

Sorry about that.
