XLR connector stuck to MK-319

My assistant discovered last week that the XLR connector in a microphone cable is stuck permanently to the bottom plug of our Oktava MK-319. We've tried pulling, twisting and pulling, bending and pulling, to no avail. We even tried with pliers (on the cable side). Is there a way to get these two apart without damaging the microphone? Help please.

Thanks,
++aldo

Might not be the best workaround, but if you want to insure it wont break, just let it be there. Cut the XLR-cord so that you have 3 inches left and solder new XLR head into it.

Worst case scenario, I would ask Michael Joly of oktavamod.

Had an Amphenol XLR stuck in a 219 last year. Using a Leatherman (carefully!!!) destroyed the rubber ring at the connector (not at the mic) but got it out without traces on the mic.
I then tried with Neutriks: no problem at all.

I thought I had the same problem when I first got my MK-319... until I realized I hadn't loosened of that ring that tightens around the XLR barrel, presumably to keep the mic cable from being accidentally pulled out. Duh. (smacks own head)

I thought that ring was to mount the microphone on the supplied. yet pitiful mic stand adapter (a bent piece of sheet metal attached to a threaded barrel). Are you sure that ring is a safety device to prevent accidental pulling? Because if it is, wouldn't you rather that the cable came off if someone/something yanked it with force?

In any case, I GOT IT OUT the other day. Here's what I did: I pried loose the rubber ring from the connector with a small screwdriver, then I put the microphone behind my head and -with my thumb pressing on the release latch of the connector- I pulled mightily until the two came apart.

Thanks to all who sent ideas.

Actually, no I'm not sure that's what the ring is for... and you are probably right. But I do know that when that ring is tightened I can't get the mic cable off the mic. When I first got my MK-319 I put the mic cable on and then tightened that ring not really knowing what it was for. When I later went to pull the cable off I couldn't... no matter what I tried! Then I remembered I had tightened that ring, untightened it and voila!

I KNOWWWWWW this has totally happened to me before.

I've found that the MK-319 is just really tight on a Neutrik and it has very close measurements and clicks firmly but will come out. My chinese XLR cables weren't as close tolerances so some of them were maybe a mm or less off and those got stuck. it was a huge pain getting them out. you could probably dremel the 319 very slightly and it would take care of it

Ok, I just tried the ring thing on my second MK-319 and the ring tightness made no difference to being able to pull the cable off the mic. So I guess that experience I had with the first mic that I described was just maybe coincidence. Ha ha.
