| When people 'move' late or early drum hits in Pro Tools they usually chop across ALL the drum tracks and nudge them forward or back in time... This way it usually sounds fine.... The edits might go across as many is 18 drum tracks!

| Lives for gear | For really large (and late in time) ambiences, I sometimes slip it earlier in time for editing - and later slip it back. How do you guys handle early hihat or cymbals? Those are the nastiest to edit in my opinion. n |

| Jules is spot on. Early hat or cymbals? Yeah. Yuk. - Retrack - Replicate and splice edit from another good section of tune - Replace with discreet samples taken from same kit/setup - Treat it like Late Everything Else and push/sew it together |

When I've done replacement in the past I've always used an Alesis D4 and blended the triggered samples in with varying success. I'm PC and have Drumagog but I find it lacking and fiddley. Although I can get it to a useful point. Knowing that this is a common technique (mentioned recently by Mike Shipley on his forum as well as a known Andy Wallace technique amoung many) I really need to have a better working knowledge of it and it's application. So.......How do you approach say adding ambiance to drum tracks? Details/gear appreciated.
