It's cool that you like the mic, I personally don't but then again the D6 fits most of what I record perfectly.
Once again I never guessed or anyway implied that everyone who doesn't like it is doing something "wrong." All I am saying is that it is possible some people may jump to the conclusion they do not like it because they haven't experienced using with a high end signal chain and different positions.

You know, I'm glad the guy who created the Ray Gun was named Ray, because a Fred Gun wouldn't be as cool.

That's not true. A 60 Hz sound wave requires about 19 feet to complete one full cycle. No doubt you've heard 60 Hz before from a monitor (or bass amp) when you were closer than 19 feet away.

Or consider this: a 200 Hz signal requires ~5.65 feet to complete one cycle. I'm sure you've heard 200 Hz out of headphones before, despite the fact that the drivers were less than 5 feet away from your ears. You don't need more distance to hear lower frequencies. You probably have standing waves causing constructive and destructive interference in your room.

That's cool and like I said it's cool that you dig the mic however your first couple of sentences in your first post does say this "I am just curious why so many people put down the akg d112 for bass drum. My guess is they have poor cables, poor preamps, noisy rooms, poor monitoring, and actually most importantly probably position the mic too far away". To me it sounds like you're assuming that most people who don't like it are just doing something wrong or using crappy equipment. I don't know, maybe you should have worded it a bit better.

This is true, you CAN hear low frequencies when you're less than their fundamental distance from the source, but the closer you get in distance to the first peak, the more intense the pressure of that wave is.
