Tube Gate Recommend !

Hey, i got a gate problem.. The ones i have been using, LOFT gates, they are not with tubes. I think i am looking for some tube sound to gates, what brand would you recommend? Also a question, are the tubes active when the gate is closed aswell?

You could probably get them with barbed wire too!

Wow, I know what you mean. There is nothing like the sound of a tube gate opening and closing. I have tried a lot and I recommend the metal tube gates as they are the most durable and eventually rust to a lovely vintage tone. The tubes are active all the time although not as effective when the gate is open obviously, because they let the cattle out.

But to make the most of your tube gate, you have to crank the gain in te tubes to raise the noise floor... then you'll know it is working. Starved plate designs work best

I thought the tube gate was to regulate the 48v on & off, for that oh so desired pulsing phantom sound. (Not to be confused with the dissapearing or reappearing phantom effect.) stike

? I have tried now several times.. seems like its hard to link the phantom to gate even if i wired the channels correctly! How do you emulate the phantom buttons with gates? Do you push same time?

Maybe you guys can help me out.. I just gated the snare, cymbal and tom-tom“s and have some problem now with the sound! Do you prefer to use more of attack or release? And what is considered a good gate attack or release time, what is generally a standard? Do you use the limiters?
