| I'm no pro but I used to see adds in Guitar World for a spray that is used to loosen the chords I think. The guy from Static-X uses it and we all know they scream like hell. I guess look into that or you could also ask a doctor. They should know what's SAFE. |

thanks man, I am going to go get some tomorrow, I have seen the stuff but never tried it because I didn't know if it actually worked, but if it does I will let you know and I am still taking suggestions because I am trying to keep my options open and get better so if anyone else can help that would be awesome. ![]() | |

| Humm in a low voice with your mouth open...and push some air...this will relax your chords...don't cough up flem...try and blow it out using air and not force. Force will constrict your chords. good luck |

| It will likely clear up on its own but just in case you can avoid sugar, dairy, caffeine and alcohol and drink plenty of water. Some people do tea with lemon and honey, but I'd skip the honey. If you have any allergies make sure your bedding and area around where you sleep is clean. It could also just be your vocal cords wanting a rest. Skip the bandmate banter and just get ready to blow. Have fun. |

| I almost forgot--make sure you are not singing in areas where anyone else is smoking. You are breathing lots of air very deeply--not to mention expending a lot of emotion--any pollutants are going to affect you four times as much as normal. The last time I sang in a smoky club, I was sick for two weeks. I have no idea how so many people do it. And breathe through your nose if at all possible. During the day definitely, while singing if you can. (That's a taoist ninja secret that's also highly recomended by Roger Love--and yes, I did get it from his book "Sing Like the Stars") If it's good enough for Eminem and Iggy Pop, it's good enough for me. He suggests a whole bunch of warmup and vocal strengthening techniques as well. I don't do many of them but they're very handy to know. It's an easy read. ![]() |

| Try "Throat Coat" - normally in the medicinal tea section at the grocery store... or Weak tea, Honey and a tiny drop of cayenne pepper. Rail

| That tea with honey is a good thing for the throat and vocal cords is a very popular misbelief. You should avoid citrus fruits like lemon (contains acid) and honey (contains sugar, which is also irritant & some acids) just as milk (phlegmy). It takes getting used to (strong taste) but sage tea should work best for a singers voice (curative & disinfectant) -but should not be used over a long term (sage also contains Thujon). -The advice comes from our voice coach (Ex Cats Ensemble).

| Only three things help: -Taking medication against coffing. -Fill a bowl with boiling water, put a towel over your head and breath the steam for a long while. -Do proper warm up exersises. This are the tricks my good professional opera singer friend has teached me for use with my clients. Things to avoid: Tea with sugar or honey Coca cola smoking |

| Most professional singers have some sort of hot air humidifier around at all times especially when you sleep. Refined sugar, salt, and smoke are the big nono's in my book. Talking less on session days also going a long way if you are a screamer. |

| disclaimer....full disclosure: I am not a doctor. in addition, it is extremely rare for anyone to refer to me as a singer. that said, I do love to sing and do it frequently. practically live for it. I also have had hay fever, allergies, respiratory stuff since I was young. I have a lot of experience with sore throats. this also reminds me of a recent thread about what or what not to consume. a few weeks ago I had bronchitis. I don't know if you've ever had the misfortune. but I decided (while trying to sing while I had bronchitis), that as long as you don't have bronchitis, you're golden. eat, drink whatever. as long as you don't have bronchitis, you'll be fine. it's mind over matter. here's my advice: first of all, relax. don't worry. it won't help. next, wash the dishes. the steam coming up from the warm water in the sink will help you. next, take a warm (hot) shower. the steam from the warm water will help you. best wishes, charlie |

| Gear Head | thanks so much guys, I have been doing some warm ups that i found on the internet and been drinking tea and only 100 percent juices and water. I have been singing in the shower with the steam (haha). I do recommend most everything said on this thread. I agree that drinking citric drinks doesn't really help but drink all natural drinks and also use steam to your advantage, my voice is back and I can't thank you guys enough. thanks so much Mat |
