Question for Lynx Aurora and 002 users

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of upgrading my converters and decided to order in a Lynx Aurora 8 (though I may go for the 16) and the ADAT card to interface it with 002R PT LE rig.

Currently I'm running a Presonus Digmax FS and have have had the hardest time trying to get it to run as the MASTER and slaving the 002R to it, no problems the other way around, which I've done for months.

I've tried several Digimax's and found the error persists and another owner 002R owner is experiencing the same issues. It only seems to effect the DIGITAL ins being fed from a DIGITAL out, i,e busing out to external gear and re-recording, which induces clocking errors and intermittent digital clipping.

I've tried the same test with an Apogee PSX1000 and found it flawless which makes me think the issue lies with the Presonus units and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem looking over at their forum.

Part of me is a little nervous hoping that I won't experience this issue with the Aurora. My plan it to use it over ADAT as my converter and clock until I can afford to move up to HD, or cross over to using Logic 8 (which ever comes first)... though if it IS a problem that change may happen sooner than I think.

So after all that rambling I'd just love to hear from fellow Aurora users who are going in via ADAT to 002/002R's, are you successfully running them as the MASTER clock and doing so without any problems?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

I'm using a Lynx Aurora 8 w/ my 002 rack via lightpipe and it works great! Just set the clock source in Pro Tools to the ADAT connection and your set! No stability problems at all.

Thanks!

This is great news, I had similar experiences with the Apogee being rock solid. The problem I had with the Presonus is bussing out of the outs back into the ins, I assume this is cool with the Aurora? Do you use it to buss out to outboard and bring I back in again?

Thanks again

It works great here too.

Just be aware that you can't hook up more than 10 outboard converters on a 002 (I use a UA 2192 via S/PDIF in addition to the Aurora 8).

The 'Low Latency Monitoring' mode in PT LE only works thru outputs 1+2 on the 002 interface. But you can assign the outputs to both the 1+2 outputs and say ADAT 1+2 at the same time. This is important when using outboard DA to monitor in 'Low Latency' mode. Naturally this is unimportant if you use a line mixer or something to monitor the signal before it enters PT.

In other words: You will want to use the Aurora's superior DA because there's a huge difference in quality compared to the 002's DA.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the input!

I ended up buying an Aurora 16, future proofing myself if I decided to move to HD or another platform. I had it hooked up in minutes and send a test tone out of the outs into the in while driving the 002R (slaved to the Aurora) and recorded well over 5 minutes of audio, perfect!

I couldn't do that with the Digimax without pops/clicks etc and it wasn't the unit as a friends has the same issue and I'm on my 2nd Digimax.

All in all I'm VERY happy and just wanted to say thank for the help.
