Euphonix ‘Max Air’ Controls Steinberg ‘Nuendo’ at
Tonmeister Show

Large format console and DAW integration shows off new alliance in action

Euphonix, Inc. and Steinberg Media Technologies AG will be demonstrating further integration of Euphonix digital large format consoles and Steinberg software at the Tonmeister trade show in Hanover, Germany. The new Max Air console will be controlling the Nuendo DAW software. This demonstration follows the recent LA AES demonstrations of Nuendo and the Euphonix System 5 console integration.

Euphonix, with System 5 and Max Air large format mixing consoles, and Steinberg, with the Nuendo and Cubase SX native processor workstation software programs, announced a strategic alliance to create an integrated system combining a control surface and Nuendo software at the recent 2002 Los Angeles AES show.

“This demonstrates our ability to combine Max ...Air’s DSP capabilities and Nuendo’s native signal processing. This is another powerful integration “proof of concept” based on an open architecture philosophy utilizing Euphonix’s ‘EuCon Networking Protocol’ and using Max Air as a control surface,” stated Martin Kloiber, Executive VP of Technology at Euphonix. “Ultimately, we plan to offer a large format control surface built with our current console technology that integrates seamlessly with Nuendo aimed at the music and post markets,” added Kloiber.

Manfred Ruerup, CEO of Steinberg added, “Nuendo is entirely based on native signal processing and with Max Air`s DSP Power we are expanding the system processing in order to deliver the next level of digital recording and editing, with a very sophisticated control surface.”

The demonstrations at the Tonmeistertagung will be held in the Steinberg stand E 62, November 22nd through 25th.

Well, actually, I'm looking at it from the other side:

Euphonix now has a unit called the "TransferStation". I'ts main purpose is to back up R-1 hard drives to anything else, from Firewire to LTO tapes and everyhting in between, without tying down the R-1. The TransferStation has 8 SCSI drive bays and a host PC which comes with Nuendo. So, all i have to do is add a sound card and sync up Nuendo with the R-1, voila, lotsa tracks. RME makes a lightpipe to MADI interface which could interface with the R-1 acting as a MADI patchbay.
