Purchasing NS-10s... what to look out for? I've finally decided to get myself a pair of NS-10 monitors and I was just wondering if there was anything I should look out for. (serial number ranges, fakes, etc.) I'd also be interested in hearing about any "hidden gems" anyone might have come across. PS: Could someone tell me the difference between the NS-10M and NS-10T?

| Gear Head | I think the most important thing to look out for is to not pay too much for them. Put a cap at $500 for a pair. My "hidden gems" were the spare ns10s I bought off a speaker shop in FL that was clearing house. $75 for the mint pair. ![]()

I would look for blown and rewired drivers and tweeters. it happened to me, two speakers had totally different high end response. The best way to test them is to AB them with a pair you absolutely know that are working properly. I have a lot of friends with NS10's so it wasn't a problem. These things are so nice. Very rock'n roll. Philip Newell has a section on these in his book explaining why they were and still are so popular and how to get the best out of them. Good luck

I am totally into the new JBL LSR series speakers..great bang for the buck..I was forced to work on NS 10s recently, it was not a pleasing experience..if you are looking for a speaker with no bottom and no top I dunno but geese paying $500 for a pair of NS 10's is just plain wrong in my eyes

Two very important things: be sure to get a decent amp for them, NS10's don't match with every (hi fi) amp, Bryston will do just fine. And take your time getting to know them and find out that one has to work very hard to make it sound good on NS10's. Listen to really good sounding CD's on NS10's and you'll find out that NS10's can sound pretty good. Make it sound just as good, on NS10's that is and if you do you have won another battle. A nice sub can help, but don't push that sub too hard and cross at 50 to 60 hz.
