| Lives for gear | uses for using just one SDC?
Hey it seems like whenever I look up SDC you should always buy in pairs and I always picture me using them in pairs, stereo OH, acoutic guitar... What would you use a single SDC for? Ive got around $350 to spend right now, and I was maybe thinking of getting an sm81. But would it do me that good just to have one? |

I've used one for vocals. I've used one as an overhead oddly paired with a bi-directional RCA ribbon mic.

I have a single KM84i that I have used for many years on ACSTC, fiddle, dobro, mandolin, violin ( ) and other such stuff.I have even used it for vocals when I needed another texture. |

A good SDC (DPA, Schoeps, Earthworks, Gefell, Neumann, Josephson, etc) is a wonderful thing - no need for a pair. I use them singly on acoustic guitar, piano, flute, violin, mandolin, vocals, hand percussion, you name it! In a good sounding room, find the sweet spot for position/distance and you can record just about anything. Scott |

Unmatched pairs can be just the ticket in many cases. Mono works at times too. |

| I almost always use LDC with an SDC. And if I mic the hat, it's always SDC.

One sdc on an acoustic guitar, one ldc for the vocal... and usually a live performance if possible. that's how I mic myself up anyways....
