Thread Starter | Korg Oasys or M3????
So much gear guys.. What do I get next out of these 2? Oasys or m3? Is it worth it to pay more and get the oasys or is the m3 pretty much the way to go with cost and features? Im not too worried about spending the extra money to get the oasys but I dont want to waste my money either. And like everyone else there are other things I could use with the money saved by getting the M3 ... By the way either of these will be Baught slightly used off evilbay. So the prices will be off a little compared to retail.. Please let me know your thoughts on the 2.. Anyone here used both or have had both?? any opinions/thoughts would be very helpful!! thanks again.. |

I haven't try the Oasys yet but really please with the M3/73
You should go to Korg forum, people over there will give you a better opinion.
I heard so many Oasys owner swear that Oasys is wayyy more better than M3... let's say they are right, but spending 8K for a keyboard is unrealistic these day.
just my opinion

M3 is good. I am happy with mine. I don't use all the features/sounds on it all the time, but it definitely does some cool things. The M3 is a stripped-down Oasis, although it is supposed to have the same audio engine. I don't know what features are missing, but I went with the M3 simply because I wasn't willing to pay the price for the Oasis no matter what features it had.

......my brother just took delivery of an oasys, he plays live quite a bit, so from that point it will be good, however getting it to talk to a compuyer for recording purposes is a bit of a pain, we were using a fantom before in usb mode and we asked the guy in the shop if we could plug it in usb meaning instead of midi he said u could, however it would appear u that u can only transfer data with it and not actually play through it, we were anxious to avoid midi however looks like we will now have to buy an interface, I can't believe Korg have neglected to provide this feature, don't know if it's something to do with their own linux based opeating system being incompatible with windows? But this has really hacked us off

I tried the M3.
I was not so impressed as to want to trade in my Triton. It was nice. But it was more a enhanced Triton.
Personally, I find the Karma stuff to be ANTI - musician. I want to play not BE PLAYED!
As far as the OASYS, I've never been able to play one --- hopefully you will be able to demo one.

For example, if you have a god DAW se-up, much of the Oasys is not useful for you... why pay for a function you won't really need... and so on.
I don't pretend to know all about both, but I do know that the Oasys was built to be a big self-contained workstation, so if you already have some of your studio, maybe the M3 gives you more bang for the buck and let's you buy other stuff with the money saved.
Just a thought.

Yeah, more info please. The OASYS has a much deeper synth engine, and is capable of much more than the M3 in the sound creation department.....and I still decided to buy the M3 because it fit the rest of my system better than the OASYS. Much of what the OASYS does I already have covered, and I really just wanted a ROMpler with good controllers for live use.
What do you need a synth for?

Nothing to do with the synthesizer section of it, but after testing the M3, I was disappointed with the keyboard action on it. I still think that the Triton Extreme has the best keyboard-style action I've ever tried!
Sounds were OK on the M3, though Haven't tried the Oasys...

WOW everything about this keyboard ive said like 300 times, lol, it is more of a triton improvement but doesnt seem like a real replacement, the action on ALL the model including the 88 keys is absolutely horrible, to be honest, i still use my triton classic as my main controller, the semi weighted ket are the best ive ever used, and the 88 key action is also very very good, i think back then the keybeds were made by fatar, now they make their own, suould have stuck with the old, but just get a M3-M and you are set.

-andrews | Thanks for all the feedback guys!
I really just want to have 1 of all the best and newest when it comes to synths, for more sounds, different vibes newest technology etc. I know Im gonna get flammed for that one (why do you want to sound like everyone else etc.. but oh well)
This is some of what Im working with so far
PT LE v7.3
SSL Duende
(I have a few racked effects units) Probably dont need to name Racked Synths and Workstations/sound modules :
Yamaha motif es rack
Roland Fantom XR rack
Alesis Fusion 8hd
Korg MS200b
Korg Triton Rack
Roland V-Synth XT
Roland JP-8080
Software synths include:
SampleTank
SonikSynth 2
Reason 3.0
Thats about all of my production type equipment right now. I dont really need something with a sequencer although I liked the sequencer on the Triton extreme I had (just hated trying to import samples from cd with the extreme) hooking up an external cd drive never worked right for me I tried 3 different drives which is why I ended up selling my triton extreme. Im wondering if there would be the same problem with the Korg m3? I know the oasys has a cd drive with it. Im not really into hooking the keyboard to the computer thing seems how my computer is about 22 feet away from my control room in a treated closet for noise reasons. I was thinking one of the new korgs because a. The sequencer (its something that maybe I could take with me to other studios and not be too bad off on efficiency)
b. Im used to korgs sequencers and multipatch layering so that would be cake. c. Korg seems to build their stuff pretty well. D. convenience of the touchscreen etc. and last but not least I can sell my Triton rack and have a few dollars to go towards the M3 or the Oasys and probably get the same sounds included in the new keyboard.(every little bit helps!)
So.... What do you guys think? Im leaning towards the M3 now if someone could please fill me in on hooking an external CD drive to it.... Does it work?? or does it freeze up like my extreme did? Im thinking maybe the m3 would be more portable than the oasys comparing size weight etc. Thanks for any info guys. any more opinions on the two givin the extra info? Im starting to get over anxious so im gonna take a plunge on one of them soon ! =) |

Long time synth junky here.....
Now, If you want the best synth new synth out there that covers the most bases the Oasys is it.
The problem is that for $8000 you can get a lot of stuff that does more than the Oasys. $2500ish for a keyboard and the rest for a high end computer and LOTS of software. Catch my drift?
On a surprising note - the Alesis Fusion is the most exciting 'all in one' board to come out besides the Oasys. And it's really --- I MEAN REALLY ---- cheap for what you get.
