Can the ADAM A7 compete with the ADAM P11a?

I am looking forward to upgrade my monitoring.

Today i had the possibilty to demo the ADAM P11a from a friend. The difference to my current KRK Rokit 6 monitors was MASSIVE, a huge step forward.

I need to upgrade as fast as possible .

Only want to know if the ADAM A7 can compete with the P11a. I have done intensive research regarding the A7 - and they seem to be awesome monitors for the money. Is it worth to spent the extra money - its almost twice the money! - and go with the Adam P11a instead?

The P11a sounded very balanced and natural. Everything was very detailed; the highs were sounding so smooth and not harsh. The bass response was ok for this kind of monitor size.

Will the ADAM A7 will also sound in this ballpark?

I think the A7 sound better. The P11 have a weakness in the lower mids, the A7 are more linear. If sub-bass (which the p11 doesn't do either) is not important, the A7 are some of the best small speakers for mixing IMHO, not only in the pricerange.
If you want nice sounding monitors, look somewhere else. If you get something to sound good on these, it is good. The only weakness I found is the build quality, which could be a little better. But there has to be a tradeoff at this price.
Have a look at Adams site for the reviews, there's one with frequency plots.

We had a discussion about p11a's and more some time ago do a search. Answering about monitors is the hardest thing to discuss in words. We ended up figuring that the p11a does great job for showing anything wrong with a mix in any freq. area but fixing it (specially the low-mid areas) was hard to do. Though when I auditioned the a7 and p11a both and choosed p11a, the a7 was very good too. Its just a matter of aesthetic taste. Since you are more familiar with the p11a, choose some mixes you did and compare them at the store with both a7 and p11a. And don't forget to audition them at the same levels.

@living sounds
Are you sure that the A7 have a more linear midrange.?
I remember that i read somewhere people were saying that the mid range on the A7 s is a bit hyped?

As said i had the possibilty to demo the P11a from a friend in my listening enviroment and was blown away by them because of the natural and detailed sound. It would be good to know if i can expect the same qualities from the A7 because i have no chance to demo them. The A7 are half the price. My room is very small and i am sitting right in front of the speakers so it is no problem that the rated power is lower compared to the P11a. I know that both monitors are not delivering sub bass - so maybe i will add a sub later.

Look at the frequency plot in one of the reviews on ADAM's site. There is a slight dip in the bass, but it's room related (stated in the article).

I've done listening tests with a lot of monitors before buying the A7, and I found the low mids to be problematic on the P11. And the low mids are one of the most important areas, that's where the mud is and where most of the cutting needs to be done. The only downside to the linearity of the A7: You'll instantly hear all the problems of your room. :-)

earlier this year, i had the a7's, the p11's and the focal solo6's in my room. i kept the focals, but would pick the a7's over the p11's.

ymmv.

Seems like the Adam A7s for half the price of the p11a get the vote .
