Thread Starter | new setup..FW1884 or what
hey guys,.. So I have a PC fast one, and am getting rid of my mackie 1604vlz and motu 2408mk1,. for a new setup I was thinking of the tascam fw1884 or the yamaha 01x,. maybe even the Digi 002,.but I am currently using Cubase SX so don't know if I want to switch to pro tools. What are your thoughts. The other option is to get something like an M-audio 410, since I do electronic music don't need all the I/O's,. and a nice preamp like a Focusrite P6 or Penta, and forget the controll surface. Any suggestions or thoughts on good pre's, audio interfaces and possible control surfaces. thanx |

If you're going to stick with Cubase you should ask this question at cubase.net to check for compatibility issues. I've read some bad stuff about the Yamaha 01x on Yamaha support forums in terms its performance as an audio interface. It might be isolated incidents, but then again it might not. I'd read up on it before spending the money on one. Go to http://www.01xray.com and visit the forums. (There's a sticky thread at the top called "Post Your Working System Configuration Here", and I don't know about you, but that just makes me nervous. )Personally I don't like the idea of having my audio interface attached to my control surface simply in terms of all the cables coming up on the desk. That's just me. |

I use the FW-1884 with cubase on OSX and it works flawlessly. No native support yet but everything I need works in mackie emulation. I used it on PC when it first came out and it was buggy then. Since then, the firmware and drivers have been updated twice so I imagine thats been worked out. It sucks that there are no scribble strips. I just have the mixer open on my second monitor and watch which fader on the mixer gets selected when I touch the fader on the control surface. The pre's are pretty transparent (if you need em) and the converters are the same as in the DM-24 I believe. So far its been a great all-in-one solution for me. Mark
