I think not. A new Skynard album would be new, so he'd be required to hate it.

Coheed and Cambria - No World For Tomorrow. The more I listen, the more I like it.
Down - III.
Robert Plant/Alison Krauss - Raising Sand
Fair To Midland - Fables For the Mayfly??? Kind of smashed, but interesting music.
Every Time I Die - Gutter Phenomenon. I always like the sound if this band, very raw.

I can't remember what other new albums I got this year. I bought a lot of music, but most of it was older, and most of the new stuff I didn't really like.

A lot of folks mention feist, I love the tunes but i didn't throw it in because as far as sonics go it doesn't capture the energy of the songs well enough.

It took me seeing the tunes live to "get it" then i liked the disc more as a result. But its rare and revealing for me not to dig such great tunes just because of the production and performances on the album.

Strawberry Jam Amazing album. By far my favorite in 07.

Other favorites from this year:
Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Dungen - Tio Bitar
Jennifer Gentle - The Midnight Room
Battles - Mirrored
Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover
Frog Eyes - Tears of the Valedictorian
Caribou - Andorra

The Neon Bible has some great parts (Black Mirror is my fave) but I can't stand the Bruce Springsteen-isms.

[EDIT: I was basing this on the thread title "Best Albums of 2007", not on the "best sonics" criteria.]

+1 For Silverchair!!! I agree these guys are just getting better with every album. I've met a few people recently who didn't even know they were still a band! What a shame.

I'm going to give Sigur Ros a mention. The new songs on the double disc are excellent, and there's some new versions of old songs that are cool too. As far as sonics go, I love their use of instrumentation and the textures. Sometimes reminds me of the Pink Floyd......

wow keep em coming... but you know what? its weird to ask this question because there are so many different genres... should we add genre specifications? my fav rock was... my fav hip hop was... my fav rnb was...etc?

i thought kanye's album didn't sound so hot. i think all new music gets squashed too much... and i think i just understood what that "mastering too loud" argument means. i loved corinne bailey rae's album if that counts...

Well, this isn't in English but since most of my non-French speaking friends love it as much as I do:

Mademoiselle K - "Ca Me Vexe"

Rockin' first album, from a Chrissie-Hynde-looking front woman with a great breakup on her voice.

MySpace.com - MADEMOISELLE K - paris - Rock - www.myspace.com/01mademoisellek

+1 for Down III "Over The Under"

There is lots of mud in the low/low mids on this record, but I still like it.

Do you really think that being open to enjoying new music is a bad thing?

I agree - I'm not a big John Mayer fan but this album really impressed me. It is extremely well done, from top to bottom. It's been a handy drum reference album.
