SSL Duende Drumstrip and UAD's new SPL plug..

I'm happy to report, after a few hours 'playing' with both (not necessarily a shootout, more of a compare/contrast) that there really is not much 'overlap'. In other words, one does not really replace the other. In fact, I found they compliment each other rather nicely. Obviously, Drumstrip is far more flexible and deep. It has become an indispensable tool in my drum arsenal.

I wasn't really looking forward to the SPL plug from UA because I figured that Drumstrip would render it useless. The truth is, when it comes to enhancing the attack, Drumstrip is far superior. But, the SPL plug has its own character that is nice and works very well on certain tracks. The Sustain tool on the SPL plug is really cool. Drumstrip does not have anything that simple or elegant. You can get close with it, but it takes a while and it sounds different. Not worse, just different. The SP plug is really, REALLY simple and easy to use. It is very quick and easy to get a good sound out of it. I found it to work extremely well both in front of and behind Drumstrip.

If I *HAD* to choose only one, there would be absolutely no question that Drumstrip would win, but I'm glad I don't have to choose. I am definitely going to buy and use the new SPL plug right along side DS.

Just thought I'd pass this along for any one who may have been wondering or who might be thinking of one or the other...or both, which I highly recommend! I'll be happy to try to answer any questions.
