Thread Starter | Anyone using an Akai MPD 16?
i picked up this midi pad the other day, but it dosen't seem to correspond (chromatically keywise) with my samples.... it plays samples sporadically. using logic pro, os x (10.3.3) |

Problem is your using Logic. Pro Tools would square you right away. It is by far THE KILLER APP for any studio application. ![]() (wink wink)

I had one, but the MIDI tracking using USB was sporadic... I had better luck using real MIDI, but that kind of defeated some of the purpose. I tried looking for newer OSX MIDI drivers for the pads, but tracking was bad in all software. Didn't really like the feeling of the pads either compared to the real MPC.

You have to use the MPD setup utility to do the mapping. It is set up so that it can work as a drum kit.

I downloaded the utility from the website, but when opened, nothing seems to happen... it just shows that its open, but when rescanning for new devices or open..., it just sits idle. Is there a difference if i run it thru midi or usb? i'm going midi into a micro express (port 1) I mean, the thing works and all, but the pads are completely sproradic. pad 1 correlates to c#1, but pad 2 goes to F4... What about initial setup? the mpd was already connected when i installed the software. 10.3.3, logic pro, motu micro express... |

I don't know about the midi thing- I've always just used it USB. Ultimately, you should be getting a graphic representation of the unit with the ability to assign each pad to key map.

| I believe that in order to use the software to assign the pads you have to have it hooked up usb. From what I have read some folks use both the usb and midi together and use the midi to record the midi and just use the usb to power the unit and for the mpd pad assigning software. This is to make up for the shotty usb driver. two cables but who cares really (at least one of them isnt a wall wart) My mpd-16 is on its way. I was thinking of posting a review if anyone is interested.
