Monitor and LCD Display Spacing

Hi everyone,
I'm very curious as to how people deal with multiple computer screens and their monitoring situation. I've seen everyone's pictures, but I'd like to know what is a good way to do it, who is right? haha :)

Right now there is about 3' 3" between my two monitors (speakers- soon to be A7's). They are on individual stands.
I have 2 LCD's and also a laptop sitting in between the monitors and slightly forward, towards me (inside the equilateral triangle formed by the speakers and myself).
I run resolutions at 1440 by 900, and I need to monitor about 3 feet back to be in the best sweet spot.
From the mix position I can see my tweeters and woofers, but visually about an inch of the right monitor cabinet is obscured by one LCD.

I was in another studio the other day moving around the computer monitors, and the sound changed as a result.
Any advice, what is the theoretically right way to do this? Or the theory of having any object in between the monitors.

Thanks everyone!
Jim

Another bump.

Really though, don't a lot of people here use a computer for music?
I imagine there would be thoughts on this subject since it seems to affect pretty much everyone

I only use a single monitor (computer) but i leave about 3" either side of the monitor before the side of the speakers.

I try to keep all obsticles away from the "direction" of the sound.. so my screen is sitting back behind the drivers.

For me personally, the best thing I did was move the monitor off the console meter bridge and put it to the side. It made me listen to music again instead of watching it. But if it was in the middle I'd set the speakers first then place the monitor. You can end up with a pretty false centre on your image otherwise which makes judging lead vocal and bass pretty hit and miss. The main thing I notice a lot is having too wide a gap in between the monitors.

Thanks noodles!
Its fine you have just one computer screen, I guess my next question is, since your screen is behind the placement of the 2 monitors, how do you sit far back enough to be in the sweet spot for the stereo image.

I mean, I have to be a certain distance from the speakers, usually forming an equilateral triangle, and this makes placing the computer screen behind the monitors difficult to read.

Led,
That is interesting about moving the display away from the middle. Do you do much detailed editing in the computer?
I'm not sure where I would put mine, because I do lots of detailed edits and programming.
I don't think my speakers are spaced out to much, they are nearfields about 3' 3" apart.
This makes me sit about 3 feet away from the screen, which gets rough reading that far away
