Will this work with older iPods?

Just kidding, just kidding. I doubt I will get an iPhone soon, but I do see an iPod touch in my future.

Digital Performer - remote control. Bye bye Tranzport.

Very cool.

I can explain what's happening- ProRemote currently doesn't know the track type- It can't discern an aux from an audio track. It also has no clue about mono or stereo- The remote detects stereo by looking at the meter data when it receives it. So not perfect by any means but those are the limitations of the HUI protocol (at least what I have reversed of it so far).

Other companies' DAWs that support what I'm doing (like Apple with Logic) will have greater integration and control with ProRemote... [I suspect more than what ProTools is offering me]. Only time will tell. If Digi would let me in on their own control surface protocol I would able to do alot more with the remote...not only that but it looks like they have a faster protocol over ethernet- that would reduce my latency even further... such is life, I'm glad it works at all w/ ProTools.

You can download a free beta of ProRemote from folabs.com - Home. The latest beta supports 32 channels and expires sometime in May.

Yup!

The SDK has made things like performance enhancements (and debugging) much easier. Not to mention adding features like multi-touch. I hope to release a new beta soon- I'm not sure if I can release any code against the current SDK until Apple gives us the greenlight-

I can however release the code built against my current tool-chain with the new knowledge I have from the SDK examples. I plan to release one more beta before this summer.

You bet it works with iPod touch! I plan to release one more beta before April- It may just be a maintenance release or I may add some features. It depends on how much I can squeeze in by then...working on performance at the moment.

I have a couple of iphone questions. I'm on mime now and love it for the internet access, I check out gearslutz countless times a day now and don't have the internet on the desktop u less I carry the iMac to the kitchen window to steal from a neighbor! So the iPhone is great for emails and the like.

But I want these cool apps like pro remote... And I know it'll end up on the apps store, but I done want to wait till then!

- If I jailbreak, can I revert to my older iPhone 'system' with all my contacts and settings f something goes wrong, or I want official features when the time comes?
- will a jailbroken phone be compatible with he future appstore?

- how do they know you did a jailbreak to lose your warranty? If I revert back (if possible) will they ever know?

Probably the usual concerns for people wanting to try it out.

If it is a bit risky, try convincing me anyway

If you sync your iPhone with iTunes, you can jailbreak your phone without worrying about compatibility or reversibility.

You can always revert and they will never know. Unlocking the phone is a different story as that messes with the radio that is your "phone", jailbreak only allows you to have access to the full filesystem and is fully reversible. If something goes wrong, just restore and your phone will be like it was before you jailbroke it- iTunes will even restore your contacts, etc... There are some very good tutorials out there for jailbreaking.

Smile Logic

Hi There,

I am a producer based in Jersey,"Channel Islands" not "New jersey, USA".

I don't run Pro tools anymore i work in Logic and would love to see a version of this brought over to Emagic/Apple's masterpiece DAW.

If you "alexfoinc" or anyone else for that matter were to develop it then you can guarantee me as a beta tester and Paying Customer.

Great work Keep it up

Here's the Big Question...

Alex,

How is it going with Apple as far as coming out with a legit version of the software... Any idea when that might be expected????

You've made the world a better place, Sir...

Apple has made it clear to me that they want this app as part of the AppStore when that launches. Please look for it this summer (or whenever Apple ships AppStore)!

Thanks for the kind words!

ProRemote already works with Logic (although there is one major bug I haven't looked into yet). Just create a Mackie HUI control surface and point it to ProRemote.

In the future I will add a "native" version for Logic users (it will mimic the Logic UI as well). In the meantime- and it will be a while, use the HUI trick with Logic.

to take the concept further, do you think it would possible to have a software like "Remote Desktop" working on an Iphone, so you could literally control everything with every software remotely? I'm sure it must have been difficult to create the program you did... but I wonder if this is doable with with the capabilities of the Iphone

Cheers,
Steeve

I'm pretty sure someone already did that for the iPhone. Something related to the VNC open source. vnsea - Google Code

I won't write something like this because it already exists and I prefer apps that are special tailored for the job at hand. A remote desktop app can't deliver meter data in near realtime, as well as full-sized touch sensitive faders. I'm not saying it's a bad app, just not my sort of thing. It's the usual, general-purpose-does-all versus special-purpose-does-one-thing. This is a personal choice-

Google 'vnc for iphone' for some screenshots, install instructions and more links.

Oh! Hello- Nothing new yet- ProRemote is almost out to the door. We added a few features and had massive cleanup to do related to the new SDK and new 2.0 OS. I fixed a ton of bugs too-

All in all it should be a solid first release. The price is unchanged, $150- I realize this isn't cheap but ProRemote represents a lot of work and is actually 4 pieces of software (including a butt-load of reverse engineering), not just the "pretty face" on the iPhone/iPod touch.

So stay tuned. It will be out soon, I'm really hoping 1.0 also includes support for Logic... only time will tell, otherwise 1.0.1 will have Logic support.

Thanks for asking!

ProRemote only works on Mac and only works on iPhone and iPod Touch OS 2.0.
Currently Windows and all DAWs that run on Windows is not supported.

Also there is no longer a jailbroken version of ProRemote available. Sorry but this is in the agreement I signed with Apple.

thanks,
alex

New ProRemote video posted

Well there is a new video of ProRemote posted. This is the version for the iPhone that is almost released. Should be any day now!

ProRemote 1.0

Enjoy,
alex

p.s. you can see there are some bugs in the code- unfortunately those are bugs in Apple's SDK! The old jailbroken version didn't have those problems tutt

Well the video clip is jerky as sh*t but you can still see that this iPhone App looks WAY COOL!

Gearslut buzz-product of the year I'd say!

The only hiccup I can see is that you might suddenly start altering parameters on your partner's PT rig, who is busy mixing something else in Studio B! Is there a 1:1 recognition protocol that ties one phone to one Mac?
