Wow, now you really can 'phone it in'. There's a live sound guy in Oz who somehow controls his live PT rig with a PSP so he can walk around the venue and make adjustments from different listening positions.

Brilliant. Personally I've been wondering when the first actual iPhone audio recording app will come out, but as a controller this is great!

Well done Alex!

I wonder if you can get audio streaming over these things (probably not in Pro Tools but maybe core audio DAWs) and then each musician in a band could, in theory, use this to do their own monitor mixes into earbuds (then covered with gun range cans). Be a neat trick.

This is a much better display than the tranzport and it would make a nice companion to that. If I had a larger layout I would probably want it!

The author of the program uses the mackie protocol, so it will already work for logic, and many other DAW's, they just have to be refined a little. This will happen after the sdk is released, and some money flows to this programmer! Cool thing is how many different ways you can access your computer from your phone. Even tests over the edge network gave great results because this guy's app is so streamlined. I saw someone comment on another site: "die lemur!" I thought that was hilarious. I don't want the lemur to die, just don't want to spend that kind of cash. This is a really handy wireless( and i mean wireless, like anywhere in the world type of wireless...think about it!) device. So many great possibilities, just wait till the multitouch interfaces on the iphone get more advanced, or oled displays come on board or...

I need to go breathe in a paper bag for awhile...

This looks truly amazing. I can't wait to get the beta for my iPod touch. I jailbroke it as soon as I got it- no problems at all.

I think his program is a stand alone 'control surface' - so it's unnecessary for it to represent stereo tracks graphically. All it needs to do is have faders and meters....

Very cool, would definately consider getting an iPhone now. In theory would this also work with an iPod Touch? Better get it before Avid designs get their sticky paws on it.

VNC is a free remote-control application. It's available for Macs, PCs, Linux, etc. You run a server app on the PT box and get a VNC client app to run on the iPhone and voila! Instant remote control! The trick is getting VNC on the iPhone, then you can remotely control any internet connected computer really. I've got a VNC client on my Treo 700p and it works great. Of course, the internet connection isn't super-fast though...but the iPhone/iPodTouch has WiFi-g, so it would be plenty fast enough for this type of use.

Here's more VNC info:

Looks like someone has already started porting VNC to the iPhone/iPod:
cre.ations.net - Creation: WebVNC - Remote Desktop / VNC on your iPhone

I might have to try it on my new iPod Touch :-)

Thanks for the kind words!

Getting audio to stream over the phone would be really cool. I can think of a few ways to do it but everything I come up with will introduce tons of latency- kinda blows. I could do it with an insert plugin- but very challenging indeed- hmm with auto-delay compensation it can be done. Okay, after I finish the installer, serial number crap, port to windows and support for every DAW I will implement this too.

I have some other surprises in store and this idea might apply to one of them!

thanks!
alex

I see what you mean -- if you're in a recording booth and need access to the transport to record yourself, for instance... Yes, that would be handy.
