What should I get to add 8 channels to my Digi 002r?

I need at least 16 channels for live recording at my church. We have a digi 002r, how can I add more channels?

You need something that will convert 8 inputs to ADAT.

What's your budget and how critical are these recordings? Do you need preamps to go along with conversion?
Why not live dangerously and go for 10 channels, using the SPDIF in for the extra 2, maxing you out like me at 18?
help us help you by posting more details.

M-Powered

If your going to spend 3k on apogee stuff you might as well ditch the 002 and get a yamaha 01v96 and a M-Audio Profire with M-Powered

(assuming that the Profire works)

see thread: M-Audio Lightbridge with 01v96

I don't need preamps, everything will be going through an Allen and Heath GL series board. Budget is probably about $500-$700 unless you can give me a good reason to spend more. Thanks for the replies.

If on a budget, go with an RME FF800, Used around 1000.00. If you can shell out a little more, go with an Aurora 8 and get the adat card. If you ever go HD, you will be set with the Aurora. Just change out the Adat Card and put in a HD Card.

Also, they have great resale value.

Bayview Pro Audio has the best prices I've found.

This with a Profire Lightbridge and Mpowered Protools is a way to go as well.

Shameless plug, but I've actually got a Digimax 96 8 channel pre that has AES, ADAT, and SDPF outs for connection to just about anything you'd ever want. Would migrate well into and HD rig down the road. They sell for 1300.00 or so new. I'd sell mine for 650.00 plus shipping.

Let me know....

PreSonus

Buy PreSonus DigiMAX 96 8-Channel Microphone Preamp online at Musician's Friend

Significant differences between this and the Digimax LT.

Something to be aware of, Not all of these boxes mentioned will give you an extra 8 inputs AND outputs, some will give only IN's

make sure if you are wanting 8 ADC's and 8 DAC's as well.

Most people I know in your situation added an Apogee Rosetta 800... except for when budget is an extreme issue... then they get an Alesis AI-3.

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

The new Aphex 142 A/DD/A ADAT is now available. Has clock in also. All for around $399 and made in USA. If you add the Aphex, you will now have 2 digital devices. I suggest you add a clock that will be better than the 002 clock, unless you've had it modded. Try the Black Lion microclock at around $400 or if you need a racked clock, there's the Lucid gen96 at around $400 also. So for about $800 plus cable --problem solved

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention because it sounds really good
at a reasonable price .. (IMHO).

The Focusrite ISA 828 with the TI Burr-Brown A/D chipset. Use the 828 as
your clocksource as the clock (as measured) had very low drift and I really like
the clarity of the new Burr-Brown converters.

I'm using this to front-end my 003 .. worth a listen i believe.
