Two Avalon 737's for 2 buss work?

I was considering buying a separate 2ch comp and eq for 2 buss work, but I already own an avalon 737. My question is, should I get another 737, use them together and save lots of $, or get separate stand alone units(Smart c2 Tube Tech eq, etc? Although the latter would probably sound better, would the 737's do the job for master buss, drum buss, etc.

Thanks,
Matt

We have two 737's and we used them once as a stereo buss compressor/EQ and it sounded a little soft for us. It seem to make the sound less in your face, we took it off. They work great as stereo EQ's for guitars!!!

I was considering the same thing when I had a 737 - but was told with all those tubes, it's unlikely two 737's would match well enough for any serious 2-buss stuff.

i'd stay FAR away from the compressor for bus work (or just about anything for that matter), but a pair would make for a killer stereo EQ.

Why is the comp not useable in your opinion? I've heard that you can have a mod done to make the attack time faster. Would that help?

Just never particularly cared for it, it's got some wierd characteristics. Maybe the mod would help... but IMHO the 737 is worth it's price for the mic pre and EQ, i'd just grab a better compression unit rather than fussing with any mods.

I have the 737 mod and it speeds up the attack and release times. Still not as fast as I'd like, but much better. Inexpensive mod and well worth it. Even still, I don't think I'd use it for a 2-bus comp.

Best....H

Yes Avalon does it for $40. I think I heard that it is also a DIY if you want. Call Avalon for details.
