A/D Converters - Which one???

A/D Converters are next on my upgrade list. I have been eyeballing these 3 options...

1. Kurzweil Rumour - $499 (new)
2. Lucid AD9624 - $450 (used on ebay)
3. Mytek Stereo96 ADC - $950 (new)

Any opinions on these units? I am currently using Delta 1010 converters and will continue to use them when additional channels are needed (i.e. drum kits), but I want to have 2 'money' channels for overdubs.

Mytek is the best of the three, Kurzweil is the best 'bang for the buck'.

Nathan - Would you say that the Rumour is better than the Lucid?

if you could use the reverb.... the rumour may be a good choice. i know its out of budget but i see the lucid ada8824's going for pretty cheap used. $1000-$1500 for 8 in and 8 out..... may be an option if you need more a/d's and d/a's.
good luck,
joshua

FWIW- I used a Lucid 9624 for about a year and I now use my KSP8 and IMHO the Kurzweil sounds better than the Lucid.

FYI ksp8 and rumour converters aren't the same to my knowledge, the latter being inferior...

Have you A/B'ed them yourself? I have, and if they are different the difference is very slight indeed. I wouldn't call the Rumour converters noticably inferior.

I'm also waiting for a Benchmark ADC1, to go along with my DAC1. Getting a bit impatient though, need something relatively soon. It's been a long wait.

I've compared the DA9624 with the Rumour. But, I haven't had the opportunity to compare the analog to digital.

On the DA side, I found the Lucid to be tight. I found the Rumour to be more spatial but a smidgen less accurate than the Lucid. However, I think Nathan pretty much nails the Rumour as the best bang for the buck.

How would the Lynx One at $475 compare to the choices mentioned above. I believe one advantage is that I would get good D/A for monitoring thrown in. Can it live in peace and harmony with the Delta 1010 in the PC?

With Lucid or Mytek I would have to spend more for D/A.

With Rumour, I think I heard that you cannot really use the A/D and D/A simultaneously. Is this true?

its main function is as a reverb box at mixtime, featuring an all digital signal path. so i should hope that the converters are available simultaneously!

edit: now that i've woken up, it occurs to me that the "all digital signal path" shouldn't require much conversion at all. doh!

The Rumours A/D and D/A converters cannot be used at the same time. Its a very quick switch between the 2 though.

Yes, the reverb can be used in real time , you go in either analog or digital, and the processed signal is present on both outputs. What you cannot do is use the unit as a simultaneous stand-alone A/D and D/A converter for signals not being processed through the unit. This is because you can only have 1 input source (analog or S/PDIF) active at any given time. Hope this clears up any confusion.
