Whats more important.... A/D conversion or pre's and comps

I have a Tascam DM 24 which I am happy with. I would like to consolidate some of my rig and was thinking about selling my Ramsa WZ96, Avalon 737, and ISA 428 to make room for some higher end preamps and comps. What do you consider to be more of an importance..... keep in mind that I am working on an LE Digi 001. I realize on the 001 that the A/D is God awful. Will the Tascams A/D suffice... should I stay put with my 737 and 428?

the AD in the DM24 isn't bad at all... i bought one and planned to add a high-end 8-ch AD til i started using the board and had no real problems with it. Your front end seems fine, nothing wrong with the 737 and 428.

If I were you, i'd worry more about mixing... you can only get 8 channels of digital output from your 001, that's far from taking full advantage of the DM24 as a mixer. Trust me, it will blow away PTLE once you get the hang of it. I've had one since it hit the market and aside from a few little issues, love it to death.

Yeah, man.... you should be getting great results with that setup.
I wouldn't go "replacing" those pres. Maybe add to them for different color.
What mics do you have? Maybe your money would be better spent there.

I always thought this was an interesting reply from Massenburg to someone looking to spend $3500 on a vox mic:

It may apply here a little bit.
