| Captain | Check out the P series Yamaha amps also as they are a good match for ns10's. and great value. If you can stretch to used Bryston 4B then go for it !!! |

| I have to second the Bryston. I use a 3b to power my NS-10's and my Auratones. Pause for even more laughter........ Never have I used such a nice amp on such a mediocre pair of speakers, but they do sound better with it. Michael Greene |

| This isn't exactly standard but for the heck of it I hooked up a pair of NS-10s to a Scott 299B tube amp recently. They actually became listenable. Much more so than with the Crown D-75 I was used to with it. Scotts are always on ebay in varying states of operability. Phil |

| Lives for gear | Now I'm a BIG Bryston fan, but I don't know if I'd hook a 3 or 4B up to a pair of NS-10's... One "POP" in the power and you'll be left with the EX-NS-10's. Maybe a 2B or a 2B-LP... I've seen them on ebay from $300 & up. Although $500 would be a fair price for one with a few years left on the warranty...

| Thanks guys! I guess I'll start looking for a Bryston 2B. |

| Lives for gear | The Bryston certainly is a great amp for NS-10's but if you're looking for something a little cheaper, I'm putting a vote in for the Hafler P3000 or the Hafler P1500 (less headroom). If you're looking second hand the Quad amps (306???) used to be the standard.....

| I'm in agreement with Massive Mastering here. I tried lots of different amps on my ns10's over the years and it wasn't 'til I tried the Bryston 2B that I really felt comfortable with the sound. I don't listen to them very loud, so the 2B may not be enough power if you need to crank 'em, but I've stopped swapping amps now and am much happier. The 2B cost me about $325 on Ebay. |

| I'm using a Quad 306 to power my NS-10s. The 306 is basically half an 606, which is the successor to the renowed 405 series. The original 405 was compromised in several ways (the op-amps were rather poor, for example), the later 306 and 606 dealt with this. Mind that the 306 (and 606) aren't particularly enthusiastic sounding amps, they sound a bit 'safe'. The 306 and 606 are also quite neutral. I purchased my 306 on eBay for 100 Pounds - which is a bargain. Expect to pay at least double this amount; a 405MkII in good condition will do approximately 180-220 quid, an earlier MkI model (not particularly recommended; it'll probably need some servicing - dried out caps and all that) will do around 150. The 606 will sit in the 250-300 range. IMHO, the 6-series (306/606) of Quad power amps were their best, the 707 is too hifi-ish - haven't auditioned the 909 (which is the latest Quad power amp) though. Bryston, Hafler, Quad, QSC; they're all fine monitoring amps IMO - at least far better than an Alesis RA or Samson ![]() |
