Any favourite mics (voice/guitars, 1.500$) to use with Ensemble?

Hi all,

my turn to ask about microphones...

I have an Ensemble coming for my project studio and would like to use left budget (around 1.500$) to try out some mics.

99% of the times i'll record vocals (sort of Richard Ashcroft/Billy Corgan kind of voice, if that makes sense) and guitars (80% electric and 20% acoustics). Electrics go to a Vox AC30 amp, i'm not using big stacks.

I currently have the SM57, the MD421 and a C3000.

I wonder if i'd be better getting some good dynamics (SM7B, RE20?) and a (hopefully) decent ribbon (Sigma?) rather than spend everything on a (used) higher quality one (87?)... anything to try/avoid in your own experience?
Btw - Ensemble pres will be the only one used.

how about the Pearlman TM-1 ?...it's just a little over $1500 and is a superb mic for male vocals..it also sounds great on other acoustic sources too, especially acoustic guitars & 'cello...

Corgan used the SM7 and Richard Ashcroft uses the TLM-170. Both in your budget.

I incidentally use either a U67 or SM7b on my own voice via an API/Ensemble combo. Both sound great!
