| PHANTOM POWER??? I'm using cubase 4 to record... and i am also using a Universal Audio LA610 Mic Preamp, as well as a presonus Firepod.... i'm not having any tech problems.... i just got a QUESTION.... to record vocals i know that the phantom power has to be on, on the mic preamp (la-610).... now... do i also have to have the phantom power button on, on my firepod? I've tried it both ways with both phantom powers on... and it works...i've also tried it with just the la-610 phantom power on and it works as well.... but i'm not quite sure witch way is right.... does it matter? both ways allows me to record vocals without a problem... so i guess you could say i'm just curious to know if both should be on.. or if one should be on.... does it make a difference in the recording? or the quality of the vocal? |

| Lives for gear | No matter what you're recording, condenser mics are the only ones that need phantom power. If you are using a mic that requires phantom power then it should be applied from the preamp that it is plugged in to. In your case that would be the LA610. |

Phamtom power is only needed if you are using a mic that requires it. If you have a condenser mic then you will most likely need phamtom power for it to work. You should only use phamtom power on the unit your mic is plugged into, your UA LA610 in this case. BTW, if you are using a dymanic mic then switch off the phamtom power, it shouldn't damage the mic but it could. | |
