| How to connect M-Audio Lightbridge, Apogee AD16x and Apogee DAC ? I am looking to upgrade the DA Conversion of my M-Audio Lightbridge for monitoring with the Apogee DAC. Right now i am running the AD16x as WC master connected via BNC to the Lightbridge. How would it work to integrate the Apogee DAC via SPDIF because the Apogee DAC has no Wordclock input. Would the unit receive the Wordclock from the Lightbridge? |

| The ADAT lighpipe format carries the clock. Just clock the DA16x to the ADAT IN wolfgang

| I do not own the DA16x. I want to use the Apogee DAC for Monitoring, but this unit has only SPDIF - no word clock input or ADAT. When monitoring through the Apogee Dac i still want to use the AD16x as WC master because of the BIG Ben clocking. The AD16x is connected via ADAT1 and as WC master via BNC to the Lightbridge. In the Lightbridge control pannel i have selected wordclock as sync source. Now i want to know if the Apogge DAC will work with correct Wordclock (from the AD16x) when only connected via SPDIF. Maybe the Lightbridge passes the Wordclock from the AD16x through the Lightbridge to SPDIF??? |

| Yes, that is correct!!! You should be able to set the Lightbridge to receive clock from the AD16 through wordclock or Adat and set the DAC to receive clock through the spdif. That being said, SPDIF is not as "solid" of a way to receive clock as a dedicated wordclock but unless you want to upgrade your DA setup, it is the only choice you have to do so. So: AD16 > Lightbridge (clock set to external wordclock in) > Apogee DA (Clock set to external S/PDIF)

| Sorry I forgot to reply to your PM, I totally forgot about it. Yes, you do have the right idea going WC to the Lightbridge, unless you are at 88.2/96kHz, then you would have to clock via SMUX adat. Then you clock the Mini-DAC through the Spdif out of the Lightbridge. That all works really well, but just make sure the AD-16x gets turned on first, otherwise you will most likely have a clocking issue with pops and clicks. I really wish the Mini-DAC had WC on it. It would make life easier. Hope that helps. Eric |
