analog home recording question

hey all

in an experimental fit I removed all digital gear from my studio (long story). I'm about to demo a few songs on a glorious 1/2" 8 track and a midas venice 320, plus various nice outboard gear; fun fun! I've done a few test tracks, just to make sure everything is calibrated nicely, and the sound is super cool... just what I've been going for after all these years wrestling with pro tools!

the one luxury I miss however, is being able to set up a minute of pre-roll before recording while I run into the other room to put on headphones, warm up on the instrument a bit while waiting for the click track, etc.

short of hiring someone to press *stop* and *record*, does anyone have any insight into some procedures for recording oneself at home in the analog domain? I suppose I could put a minute of white leader before each song but...

oops, answered my own question, haha!

Most the latter-day 8 track 1/2" that I recall had a remote footswitch option. Which unit are you using?
