Fixing up my gateway desktop in the basement or stick with laptop for recording

I want to improve my mixes. I'm using a firepod right now through my sony vaio laptop...I want to start mixing in protools so I'm either getting the mbox2 micro, or something else...I'm not positive yet. Would it be smarter to fix up my gateway that's about 5 years old that has Windows XP and just add a new hard drive, ram, and sound card or something? Or stick with the laptop? or any other suggestions?

Why would you go to PT LE with no delay compensation... When you can have it in so many other apps on XP and that will work with the interface you already own?
