What vocal microphone?

Hi, I'm in the market for a decent vocal microphone, budget $1000.

Recently sold my TLM103 , which I just found too harsh and unuseable on a lot of stuff. Now I'm using my CAD Trion 8000(which is terrific for the price) for vocals thru a Langevin DVC but recently listened to an old 70's U87 and was really impressed with the sonic difference

So, I cant really afford an old U87 or a new one!, but am maybe leaning toward a Soundelux U195, small body Peluso 2247 or other. Other suggestions/opinions welcome.

Thanks

Cormac

Hey Cormac, I just purchased a Red Type B with a B7 capsule, which is "inspired by" the U47, and I'm very pleased with it. It sounds fantastic, and the beauty of it is that you can buy different capsules so you have several different mics in one.

It also looks cool, which we all know is the most important thing.

OK, so the Red Type B sounds interesting. Good price too.

Any more opinions on a good vocal mic? Still looking at the U195.

Cheers

I like the RODE K2 myself. I haven't used them, but a lot of people love the Pelusos.

Hey, I could get a gold plated cable with the $700 left over!

Yeah, looking at the SM7 too. Definitely going to get one soon. Really wanted a nice condenser, just not in the U87 price range, yet.

Thanks

A waterford man??? I'm from carrick meself! Dublin now though.

Anyway, have a look at the se gemini, great mic for the money and is in and around your budget. Great on vocals, overheads and any acoustic instrument. Well worth the price!

Not a big Rode K2 fan at all..

Sm7b is great (with a high gain pre),

Red type b is nice, Red type b with R6 is excellent.

The stock R8 cap is good and useable but not superb.

maybe worth checking the link out below...I discovered how much nicer the P12 and P251 Peluso mics were than my U87. I wasn't unhappy with my U87 but now I've heard these comparisons then I'm probably going to go for a P12 next. An SM7 is also on the list!

Thanks for all the replies. I finally bit the bullet on a Red Type with stock R8 capsule. Got it for 440 Euro and collecting it in the US next week. Another reason for buying was the ability to use old Gefell capsules , of which I have a few, the UM70 and M71. I'll let you know how I get on with the Red when I start using it..

Cheers
