Wish I knew and could help ya out here... id say learn how to sing like him and youd be good with any setup because that boy can sing. He's one of my favorite vocalists of recent...has such a distinct style.

he sure can sing!! he's got great pocket with his vocals but the sound on that particular song stands out. I've heard he's been known to use a shure SM7b which would make sense on this track cause it's a close sound.

I also love the whole album and just checked out the vocal mixing today. Without doubting that he is a fabulous singer, there is a lot of signal processing in these vocal lines. I would also claim that they were strongly corrected at several placed throughout the album and I was wondering if this has something to do with the sound.

Anyone has suggestions and ideas how to reproduce this softness in the main vocals which embeds it incredibly well into the mix? I believe that one part of the process is by using hard chromatic auto tuning on the dry vocals and mixing it ontop. Would be great to find comments and discussions about that?

I also believe that its not only the mic but the magic in the signal processing. I'll keep posting after some research that I've done and experiments.

A lot of what you're hearing is the 251 it has a built in compression and detail that is unique.

I have seen him live and know a number of people that have worked with him (I had his old bass player in the studio this week), and Jason is an amazing singer. I highly doubt that the tracks were "strongly corrected", it would not surprise me if there was no correction at all.

People hear anything that sounds round, compressed, or unique in a vocal and they think correction. We have Glee to thank for that.

And an SM7 on acoustic guitar? Cool! anything else you'd like to share from these sessions? Love the record.
