| Lives for gear | low-end, mobile rig - OS X - PTLE7.3 - US-428 = PLS HELP?
I am trying to set up a cheap, quick mobile rig for (largely unimportant) on-site stuff. I am using my Macbook Pro 17", w/Leopard and MBox 2 Pro, PTLE 7.3.1 (might upgrade to 7.4) and an old Tascam US-428, which I wsant to use as a control surface. Everything is working fine except for the Tascam. There is a PDF on Tascam's site about setting up the US-428 as a control surface. They are unclear which version they are referencing. They mention Pro Tools Free, but they give the impression that they are not necessarily talking about that! At any rate, the document says the following: Start Pro Tools and load or start a new session, then do the following: • Under MIDI/Input Devices… make sure that “US-428 Control Port” is checked • Choose Setups/Peripherals and select the “MIDI Controllers” button • On line #1 select “CS-10” under “Type” • Select “US-428 Control Port” under “Receive From” and “Send To” • Select “8” under “# Ch’s” • Click “OK” in the Peripherals window The problem is, there is no CS-10 option under type?? I've tried all of the available ones and nothing works, thus far. I am not a PT expert at all. I use other DAWs primarily, but PTLE is a secondary for me and 1 that I am keen on learning more about. Any help would be very welcome! Is there a way to install CS-10 support? PS - The US-428 works fine. It shows up in the OS and operates fine as an audio I/O for other apps. Obviously, I'm not interested in any of the Audio I/O...just control surface. Thanks!!

Never mind...please disregard...I figured it out. For any one trying the same: You need to download the legacy CS support files from the digidesign web site (or, I think the files are also on the 7.1 install disk in the unsupported software section). The dmg includes the CD-10 .bundle file (among others) that you need to copy in to the: /Applications/Digidesign/Pro Tools/Controllers folder (or wherever you installed it). You'll then see the CS-10 option in pro tools. Follow the instructions pasted in my original post. |
