Thread Starter | A question of a concrete floor in CR Im leaving a concrete floor in a new CR bare to keep a little high/mids, all corners and roof are treated. Is the floor between me and the speakers considered a first reflection point as well as the normal suspects? Should I be throwing a small rug down, or can I just leave it ? |

| The good news is it's very cheap and easy to find out. Just bring a rug or two from home to the studio, put it on the floor and listen. Go for whatever you liked best in the end. |

| yes it is a first reflection point typically you would have a desk or other equipment between you and the speakers that would diffuse the sound a bit Also the human brain is used to hearing reflections off the ground and so its not as critical as treating other reflection points, however comb filtering is comb filtering.. So if you want accurate you should put some absorbtion there. A rug will only absorb the ultra highs, it won't be thick enough to absorb anything else. its also possible to put an angled surface there so that there are no direct reflections from that area the best idea is to try it and see narco

Thread Starter | Fair call thanks. I dont think Im looking to do anything other than minimise reflections, so Im not sure actual thickness is going to be a crtical factor here, I think :0) Its a unusual set up, in that there is absolutely nothing bewteen the couch and the speakers. Its kind of a living room type of set up based round a laptop, so there is nothing to disperse reflections from the floor at the moment |
